#FreshStyleFits: adidas Ultra Boost Uncaged – August 12, 2016

Last month, adidas released a new version of their popular Ultra Boost shoe line called the Ultra Boost Uncaged. Here’s our take on whether adidas scored a hit or not:

By: Alli Lhamon @allilhamonn and Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

Brandon: Between the Yeezy’s and the Boost Uncaged, adidas has quietly put together a very nice 12-month run. I have multiple pair of the new release including the my favorite, the triple red (see below). The white and black are both great everyday shoes and can be found on retail shelves still.

Alli: I already know I will be spending my next Peach State check on a pair for myself. They shoes have a clean look with multiple colors that I like. After seeing Brandon with his on, they are really a must have for my closet.

Throwbacks

I remember my man Jermale Wilkerson with a closet full of jerseys back in the day when everyone was rocking the Mitchell and Ness jerseys two or three sizes too big. I didn’t get around to wearing them at that moment but they’re back in style now.

This Fabolous line from the hit “Can’t Let You Go” in 2002 still rings in my ear to this day: “There’s gonna be a clip tossed if I go back with stains from her lip gloss on my throwback.”

The difference is this time around, the trend is to actually buy jerseys that fit. For me, I’m wearing a 44 (Large) in the authentic brand Mitchell and Ness. I’m a hometown sports guy so the Hank Aaron, Deion Sanders and Dominique Wilkins were all must haves. I’ve also grabbed Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson and Larry Bird jerseys amongst others.

For now, I am only wearing the jerseys of retired pro athletes or the college / high school throwback versions of people currently playing professionally. Nike made a nice set of college throwbacks for some of the top football players including A.J. Green (UGA) and Peyton Manning (Tennessee). Living in the heart of SEC country, you’ll see both of those on my back before the fall comes and goes.

Here is the Hank Aaron jersey with the matching Braves New Era Cap from Hot 107.9 Birthday Bash in June:

#FreshStyleFits: Summer ’16 Style Guide by Brandon Clay – May 24, 2016

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

Hats

For the most part, I stick with a combination of New Era fitted / snapback and Jordan Brand hats. I like the flavor that a crisp hat brings to the top of the outfit when it’s done right. From time to time, I’ll still rock a Polo Ralph Lauren baseball cap like Alli Lhamon mentioned that she rocks as well. Suzanne Eubank, one of my fashion go-to’s, says baseball hats should be worn with the bill clean and to the front. I rock with that though I must admit I stray from her theory on occasion.

Jackets

No matter where my travels take me, I’ll still keep a lightweight Lifted Anchors bomber jacket or hoodie with me until the end of June. I put Jordan Davis on them before spring break came and went. Temperatures vary so much when the sun goes down that the extra layer can add to the outfit while still matching the weather.

Shirts

Whether it’s from Lifted Anchors or John Elliott, the extended or asymmetric tee is still the way to go for me. I rocked them tough this winter with a jacket. I have a wide variation of colors and styles in the closet but the Lifted Anchors Penny tee or John Elliott Distressed Classic are great for any occasion. A huge shoutout to my personal stylist, Taylor Johnson, is necessary for the assist on this look. As an aside, being in the gym consistently is a major key to pulling these shirts off the right way.

I like Polo button up shirts when it’s 85 degrees and under especially if there is going to be shade at an outdoor concert. I also keep the Polo v-neck on deck as the weather heats up too.

Pants

It all depends on the day and location but Embellish Demin’s are lightweight which works even with the temperature rising. I also keep a crisp pair of Polo shorts on deck. I wear basketball clothes all the time for work so I like to step it up with my style when I get out of the house.

Sneakers

There are so many options out for a sneakerhead like myself. The Retro Jordan Brand Collection is a staple in my closet. I love the OVO X and OVO XII’s especially, got my hands on em early. This year, I’ve added a low top look with the Nike Presto this summer. They are the lightest shoes that I’ve rocked. I’ll always have room in my rotation for the timeless Polo low tops on my feet to complete the cycle.

Status: Got my hands on these early. Slated to drop in stores Summer '16. 👟: #Jordan #OVO12s by Drake | #SoleFlow

Accessories

I like to keep a clean watch on my wrist. The Apple Watch is a must grab and remains my go to through the summer. With all the band options, it’s easy to switch the style up from the gym to the weight room to the beach while keeping the watch in play. Elite Basketball Academy standout, Sydney Parrish agrees with me.

#FreshStyleFits: Summer ’16 Style Guide by JD Davis – May 16, 2016

This summer, I’m paying close attention to the Instagram’s of some of my favorite dressed people. Devin Booker does a nice job with his look (@dbook) as does my boy Odell Beckham Jr. (@iam_objxiii). Here’s what you can look for me to rock all Summer Sixteen:

By: Jordan Davis @JDavisPSB

Shorts

Sweat Shorts are essential to my closet in that I can throw them on with some sandals when I hit the lake or even with a pair of low top vans for when I’m headed to the city. Perfect combination of comfortability and style. I prefer Nike SB which Pacsun keeps in stock.

Shirts

A lot of my shirts this summer are going to be from H&M simply because I keep it simple in this category. I’m really starting to get into the long sleeves that have the top two buttons (leave the top unbuttoned). Also H&M as a great collection of the long tees (regular and asymmetric) they sell for about $8. I’ll do the occasional Ralph Lauren long sleeve button up for a clean look.

Tanks

Expect me to come out the box this season like I’m “Tank Top Shawty” as Brandon Clay likes to say. I’ve been putting in the work fitness wise this school year (S/O to @YaBoyTG) so I’m rocking the tanks heavy this summer. Urban Outfitters has a great selection from Stussy Tanks to their own personal OU brand.

Pants

I’m a heavy advocator of the black or brown pants look because of the way it balances out a light colored top. I buy my black pants (regular and distressed) strictly from Pacsun because the Bullhead brand is made just right. Also I’ll throw in some light colored distressed jeans that go great with anything from white v necks to bombers.

Taylor’s Take: Kendall & Kylie Jenner along with Gigi Hadid clearly love rocking the bomber jacket with leggings (and my personal favorite accessory being their Yeezy shoes). I love this jacket because it’s the perfect casual, comfy jacket while still looking fashion forward. Black and olive green are popular colors for this look but moving into spring floral prints are going to be right on point with the way this trend is moving. My suggestion is to pair the jacket with leggings like Kendall and Gigi like to wear or sport torn jeans like Kylie.

I decided to go with a modified version of the look that you probably wouldn’t see the Kylie wearing but it fits my style best.

Macy’s: Tommy Hilfiger Tweed Bomber Jacket – $52

Here are three different looks that are still in stock:

1) Missguided: quilted jacket rib collar bomber khaki – $68

2) Urban Outfitters: Light Before Dark Bomber Jacket – $64

3) Free People: Quilted Aviator Jacket – $148

Brandon’s Take: From the GQ stylish man of the year, Kanye West to award winning actor Eddie Redmayne, bomber jackets are definitely the move for guys this season. There are multiple ways to pull off the look. A pair of OVO Jordan 10’s might call for a bigger version while a pair of low top Louis Vuitton sneakers or Converse are a perfect reason to pull out a slim version from the closet.

Here are three different looks at varying price points that are still in stock:

1) Alpha Industries: MA-1 Jacket – $140

2) Topman: Stone Wool Blend Canvas Bomber Jacket – $140

3) Topman: Grey Jersey Bomber Jacket – $55

#FreshStyleFits: Kanye West + adidas = YeezySeason – January 20, 2016

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

Kanye West has come out the gate in 2016 on a mission. He’s revived his G.O.O.D. Friday series of single drops in anticipation of his album “Swish” due to release on February 11th. It’s no secret that Mr. West has long been known as one of the game’s premier rap artists and music producers. Since dropping “Yeezus” in 2013, he has been quiet musically not releasing an album or EP since then. In the interim, he’s done a little of everything else becoming a husband to Kim Kardashian, a father twice over to North and Saint West, as well as a go-to in the fashion world.

Listen to more about this topic on the GreenLabel.com Report at the 9 min mark:

He split (rather loudly) with Nike and signed with adidas. Most recently, his signature line of Yeezy Boost sneakers have been arguably the hardest sneaker to get that actually hit retail shelves. One of West’s latest singles, “Facts,” talks all about it so make sure to listen if you haven’t already. I had a conversation with Mississippi State assistant, Elena Lovato, about the scarcity an event this weekend. Shortly thereafter Tennessee assistant, Jolette Law, commented on the shoes as well.

As popular as the Jordan Brand Collection of shoes have been, Kanye has a valid point about his shoes jumping over the Jumpman.

With an original suggested retail price of $200, current prices on the newly released Yeezy 350 Boost (Tan colorway) low top sneaker have climbed to $1,500 per pair on reseller VIP Exclusives. The black and turtle dove colorways of the 350 Boost which were released earlier in 2015 are going for $2,500 while the 750 Boost hightop version has a price point of $3,500. Even the OVO Jordan 10’s that were released in limited supply late last year can be found around $550 per pair right now.

If you got your hands on a pair like Buford High volleyball star Avery Cason, did before the prices skyrocketed congratulations.

We were fortunate enough to get our hand on each of the four low top versions before they left the retail shelves avoiding the expensive headache of trying to find them through a reseller. Here’s a look at the shoes:

#FreshStyleFits: Jordan 11 “72-10” – December 21, 2015

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

The Retro Jordan 11‘s are arguably the most popular shoe in the Jordan Collection. I can say with certainty that they are for me. The combination of the patent leather and crisp lines on the shoe make it a must purchase anytime a new color way is released. On December 12th, Jordan Brand dropped the “72-10” version. The shoe is in Chicago Bulls colors to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Michael Jordan-led team that won 72 games en route to the 1996 NBA World Championship.

The shoes were (and still are) relatively cost friendly with a retail price of $220. While the shoe isn’t available on any retail sites that I could find after the end of first day release, multiple secondary resellers have them for under $320. These make an ideal Christmas gift for the sneakerhead in your household.

#FreshStyleFits: Flare Jeans – December 17, 2015

Brandon Clay’s Note: In addition to assisting me with everything #TeamPSB on a daily basis in the office, Taylor Johnson manages to be one of the most fashionable people in Atlanta. She serves as my personal stylist. Together we develop a style going into each season that I can rock both inside and outside of the gym. Keep a close eye on all of her #FreshStyleFits pieces.

By: @KTaylorPSB

Skinny jeans aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, but flared jeans are making a comeback. Flared jeans are a dramatic piece to any simple outfit.

How to wear: I was introduced to the look after seeing celebrity fashion designer Rachel Zoe discussing the look recently. My take is that flared jeans look best with a great pair of healed booties in the fall and winter. The key to making them look right is to make sure they are the right length. With heels on the flared jeans should be almost touching the ground. The longer the jeans, the better for this dramatic jean look. I dropped my pair of Lucky Brand Brooke Flare jeans off at Brandon’s tailor today to make sure my jeans were the perfect length.

When to wear: Flared jeans are easy to dress up or dress down for a night on town or for a casual daytime outfit. I’ve got the jeans with some booties and an oversized sweater to dinner Friday night. I’ll post a picture afterwards.

Brands to buy:
Lucky Brand – “Brooke Flare” (pictured above)
7 for all Mankind – “Ginger Flare”
Hudson – “Taylor Flare”

#FreshStyleFits: Epitome ATL – November 4, 2015

By: Jordan Davis @JDavisPSB

My friend, Evan Samuels, and I were in Buckhead a couple months ago when we stepped in Epitome for the first time. It’s located at 252 Pharr Road NE in Atlanta, Ga., a mile down the street from Lenox Mall. From the moment we walked in, we noticed the crisp displays and varieties of shoes the boutique carries. From wall to wall, there are shoes for sneaker heads of all backgrounds ranging from custom Nike Roshes to Vans and even old school Limited Edition Air Maxes. I knew immediately this was a heaven for both collectors and fans of nice kicks alike.

The staff is laid back and down to earth and give great service along with their ability to offer personal knowledge of every collection. My friend, Terah Moore, works there and says “the shoes there can’t be found at any other stores.” She told me, “I’m a sneaker girl so it’s awesome to work somewhere that has a very special selection that you can’t just find at the mall”. Epitome offers an abundance of unique shoes and should be checked out by my people riding through Buckhead. I knew anyone with a fresh shoe game like Brandon’s would like the boutique, so I had to drop the assist.

By: Brandon Clay @BBallPlusMusic

Epitome-Atlanta

I took the Chris Paul like assist from JD and slammed the alley-oop home like Blake Griffin making Epitome home for an hour on Tuesday evening. Like JD, I was immediately drawn to the crisp lines and white designs inside the store. Shoutout to both Terah and Justin Paul for all the help and providing the background of the store while I looked around. I’ve been focusing on tightening up my Jordan Collection the past 12 months but there was a Nike Backpack that caught my attention. The Nike MOG Bolt Bag on display was simply too saucy to let slide so I scooped and scored on my way out to the Daron Jones performance downtown. The staff also informed me that everything is available for purchase online at EpitomeATL.com as well. The store is definitely in the rotation when I visit Lenox and Phipps from here on out.

#FreshStyleFits: Jordan 11 Retro Backpack – October 23, 2015

Nike released the Jordan 11 Retro Backpack at the tail end of 2014 to coincide with the re-release of the Jordan 11 sneaker. The Backpack has the sneaker attached to the bottom. It’s a pretty unique design. They released two color ways: Black / Red “Bred” for Jordan’s Chicago Bulls theme and the Carolina Blue / White in Jordan’s UNC alma mater.

By: Brandon Clay @BBallPlusMusic

The Backpack wasn’t mass delivered to retail shelves and most casual fans missed the release with Nike.com selling out of the product in a hurry (surprise, surprise). I wore the Carolina Blue / White color way last week to an event and was asked several times where to get them.

The best answer I have right now is to search secondary sites like eBay or Amazon. Upon quick glance, both have limited quantities selling between $229 and $300. The bag originally retailed right at $199 so the markup isn’t astronomical given how quickly the bag disappeared from traditional retail outlets. Add it to the holiday Wish List.

UPDATE 12/25/15: After inquiring about the backpack at the Elite Basketball Academy Top 40 Camp, Hannah Fuller then received it as a Christmas present. Here she is on Christmas morning:
