#iTunesSounds: Four to Know – May 18, 2016

By: Jordan Davis @JDavisPSB and Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

1) Panda by Fabolous

Fab comes through on arguably the hottest song of the year to date with a verse that is even cleaner than the beat. Just listen… — Brandon Clay

Favorite Line: “You ain’t fam I don’t trust ya. Brothas will jam up your hustle. Your own man wanna crush ya, that’s a D’Angelo Russell.” (a slick reference to the Russell / Nick Young fiasco in LA earlier this year)

2) Grab The Wheel by Lil Uzi

To be completely honest I’m not a Lil Uzi fan and even my roommate Dom (@PrinceJones06) can tell you that I hated whenever he put it on in the car. But this song is definitely extremely catchy and rides when you’re in the car with your friends. I have to give credit to my boy K Rock (@krockmcclain) for showing me this one. — JD Davis

Favorite Line: “Rocking shows, I might get a lake house with a boat. I might rock all white just like the Pope.”

3) The Man by Nav

The moment I heard this song I knew I had to throw it in my rotation. This is my first time hearing this artist but he’s got a dope new style. The chill tone of the song along with the rappers laid back style gives the track a smooth vibe. — JD Davis

Favorite Line: “Now she dancing like Billy Jean she wanna go home, And she wanna go wit me cause. She know I’m the man, she got no money she got no plans, Designer Pants.”

4) Tru by Lloyd

Lloyd has been away from the scene since his hit, “Lay It Down” in 2011. He’s back with this one and explains some of the issues that he’s dealt with in the interim. — Brandon Clay

Favorite Line: Apologies if I ever let you down, so much ish done happened that it’s hard to talk about. So many losses that my lawyer said don’t talk about it. Just had to pray and keep it cool til I could walk up out it. Came home helped my sister raise her child, kinda hurt me cause I could have had my own now. Lost my baby and it’s starting to hit home now.

Kirk Franklin is one of the premier gospel acts of the past two decades. He performed at the Fox Theatre on Mother’s Day. The place was packed with 2,500 people. Here’s a look at his performance:

#iTunesSounds: Drake – “Views” – RnB Playlist – May 14, 2016

DISCLAIMER: I shared with PSBPopCulture.com Team Member, Jordan “JD” Davis, that I had to split the Drake “VIEWS” album into two separate playlists. I like his RnB songs but “Feel No Ways” in between “U With Me” and “Weston Road Flows” is a little much for me to handle.

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

That said, the RnB list has 11 songs on it. While we didn’t get a line as transparent as “The one that I needed was Courtney from Hooters on Peachtree I feel like she was always the piece to complete me,” Drake and 40 always team up to make noteworthy songs. Here are my go-to tracks with a favorite lyric from each as well:

4) “Feel No Ways”

For the record, this is my favorite RnB song on the playlist…

“Who is it that’s got you all gassed up? Changing your opinion on me. I was only gone for the last few months but you don’t have the time to wait on me.”

7) “Redemption”

“I’m not unrealistic with none of my women. I tell em if they ain’t with it, then let’s just forget it. Relationships slowing me down, they slow down the vision. Guess I’m not in a position to handle commitment.”

9) “Faithful”

“I know you been workin, workin, workin, workin ain’t ya? You don’t have no time to layup. You just trying to be somebody before you say you need somebody.”

11) “Controlla”

“I think I’d lie for you. I think I’d die for you, Jodeci cry for you.” — a direct play on the old Jodeci song, “Cry For You.”

12) “One Dance”

“I had to bust up the silence. You know you gotta stick by me. Soon as you see the text, reply me. I don’t wanna spend time fighting.”

16) “Too Good”

“Last night I came to a realization and I hope you can take it. I’m too good to you, way to good to you.

18) “Fire & Desire”

“You’re just like my sidekick. I just wanna wife ya, fill all your desires.”

#EntertainmentPSB: Beyonce´ – “Formation” Tour – May 4, 2016

Beyonce´ Knowles-Carter had herself quite a week with her latest album, Lemonade, debuting at No. 1 on the charts while her nationwide “Formation” Tour got underway as well. PSBPopCulture.com Team Member, Taylor Johnson, joined me for the Atlanta stop. Held inside the Georgia Dome, 50,000 fans were on hand for the two-hour long performance. Here’s a look back at the night:

#EntertainmentPSB: Lupe Fiasco – “2016 Tour” – May 3, 2016

Lupe Fiasco is one of the premier Hip-Hop artists in the last decade with multiple songs making the Billboard charts. I had the chance to take in Fiasco in concert. Here’s a glimpse of what he brought to the table on Monday night:

#EntertainmentPSB: Drake and Future “Summer Sixteen” Tour — April 27, 2016

With Drake’s “Views” album release slated for Friday, he announced a summer tour with Future earlier in the month. The initial pre-sale tickets sold so quickly, the duo immediately posted additional dates. The last time these two paired up on the road was for Drake’s “Would You Like A Tour” in 2013. Please believe I’ll be in attendance when the tour hits Atlanta.

#iTunesSounds: Beyonce´- “Lemonade” – April 27, 2016

Beyonce´ did it with this one even creating an hour long visual film to coincide with the album. Make sure to watch it. From start to finish, the music is diverse but is easy to follow. Here’s a look at some of my favorite songs and lyrics off the album.

The buzz over the weekend was crazy and sparked conversations with some of my favorite people: Jordan Davis, Donte Grant, Jacie Hoyt, Taylor Johnson, Maci Morris and Cameron Sealey amongst others.

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

Sidenote: There are some (not so) subtle references to alleged infidelity rumors floating around her husband Jay-Z and Rachel Roy. Queen Bey wastes no time getting into the topic…

1) Pray You Catch Me

“You can taste the dishonesty. It’s all over your breath as you pass it off so cavalier…pray I catch you whispering, pray you catch me listening.”

2) Hold Up

“Let’s imagine for a moment that you never made a name for yourself or mastered wealth had you labeled as a king. Never made it out the cage, still out there moving in them streets. Never had the baddest woman in the game between your sheets.”

4) Sorry

“I ain’t thinkin bout you. Middle fingers up. Put them hands high. Put it in his face. Tell that boy bye.”

7) Love Drought

“Nine times out of ten I’m in my feelings and ten times out of nine I’m only human tell me what did I do wrong.”

8) Sandcastles

“Although I promised and I could have stayed (baby). Every promise don’t work out that way.”

11) All Night

Note: Don’t let the old school OutKast “SpottieOttieDopaliscious” sample slide by you. That’s all.

12) Formation

“Cause I slay (times a million).”

#PSBSportsChop: #MambaDay Recap – April 19, 2016

We talked last week about Los Angeles Laker guard Kobe Bryant bidding farewell to the NBA after 20 seasons. Nike even created a special week-long advertising campaign with activation from athletes across multiple sport platforms to document Bryant’s legacy. What a farewell game it turned out to be as the 18 time NBA All-Star torched the Utah Jazz for 60 points in a home win at the Staples Center. David Beckham, Jay-Z, Kanye West and the legendary Jack Nicholson were amongst the celebrities court side for Kobe’s final game. Hip-Hop artist Fabolous even documented Bryant’s night with a freestyle titled “Black Mamba” that he released the following day.
