#iTunesSounds: Sabrina Claudio – “About Time” – Oct. 25, 2017

For all of my RnB fans, Sabrina Claudio is up now. My PSBPopCulture.com teammate Jordan aka “Palmtree JD” Davis gets the credit for introducing me to the 21-year-old Miami native. Riding the heels of a huge SoundCloud wave over the past twelve months, Claudio just released her debut album, “About Time.”

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCultureBC

THE BREAKDOWN:

The album has a soulful vibe that exceeds Claudio’s years. That said, she delivers the content with a believable sound that gives the impression that Claudio has been through the life she is singing about on the records. While “Belong to You” and “Unravel Me” are the two most popular tracks before the album, it’s the song “Natural” that caught my attention as I’ve been listening this week.

#PSBAllAccess: “Adrian Penland All-Star Game” – Apr. 11, 2017

Through his hard work and dedication to the community, Adrian Penland has established the premier postseason game for seniors in North Georgia. I was honored to serve as a judge for this year’s Slam Dunk Contest.

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

The Breakdown:

I’ve known Adrian since we played against each other in high school. He was a star at West Hall High, went on to play at Lander University and went overseas to play professionally after that. Since then, AP has taken that experience and brought it back to the streets with a series of youth camps, tournaments and his All-Star Game. Former Atlanta Falcons, Jerious Norwood and Todd Weiner, as well as Alabama forward Daniel Giddens joined me as judges. I definitely wanted to bring my fashion A Game out of respect for what AP is in the process of building.

SIDENOTE: Congrats to #SMPMember, Taylor Anne Kelley, on winning the 3-point contest. Multiple event attendee, Hanna Grogan, won the game’s MVP as well.

HUGE shoutout goes to both Larry Rhinehart and Jordan Davis for the crisp pictures and quick turnaround time.

I never got on a scale when I made the commitment to start working out daily in the spring of 2014. The number didn’t matter to me. What did matter is that I felt sluggish most days, didn’t like the way I looked and my doctor told me I needed to reduce my daily sugar intake. Between candy and soda, I was taking in 600-800 calories a day in sugar alone. So I took action: slowly changed my diet, made working out a priority not something I did if I had time left in the day.

As 2016 winds down, I know since I’ve started working out consistently I’ve dropped multiple pant sizes, am two shirt sizes down from where I started. I don’t have an end goal mainly because I feel like I’m always evolving. I will say that if I of all people can cut back on sugar, soda and even fast food that I’m confident anyone on my TL can too. My friend and co-worker Jarrett Christian says, “Take It Personal.” That’s exactly what I plan to keep doing.

In this episode, I had the chance to attend North Gwinnett’s basketball alumni day. I spent thousands of hours in this gym during my teenage years learning how to overcome adversity, take in constructive criticism and become a true competitor in every aspect of my life. Getting back amongst my former teammates and coaches gave me a chance to reflect on how my days at North helped me arrive where I am today.

#PSBPopCulture: “Boot Camp” – Oct. 12, 2016

I use the term “Boot Camp” to describe my weeks outside of July. Most days consist of standard work for the company, multiple workouts / recovery and fueling my body.

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

My longtime friend Tom Bender said years ago that 80 percent of our appearance is based off of what we take in, the other 20 is our workout results. As an expert in his field who trained Calvin Johnson, who is a future NFL Hall of Fame Wide Receiver, during his prime I give Tom’s words full attention.

In talking fitness / fuel consumption with Allison Howard and Jordan Davis, I’ve realized how hard it is to make lifetime altering changes both to our workouts and what we take in. Most of the people I’m in contact with (myself included) don’t have the genetic makeup to consume large amounts of food high in sugar or fat content and still look they weigh the want.

I started my effort to change my frame towards the end of 2012 and have continued to learn more about my body in each passing year. In 2013, the focus was getting back in the gym to run everyday. In 2014, I started to change the way I fueled my body cutting out the massive amounts of sugar I took in daily. 2015 marked the beginning of getting back to lifting weights while 2016 has been a focus on tying all three of those things together. I’ll post an entry a month with progress and more detail on what’s going on in my world fitness wise.

Jordan, who I consider both my friend and fitness rival, provided me with the final motivation to take this part of my daily routine public with his Snapchat post yesterday:

I then took to my Instagram / Snapchat at BrandonClayPSB to politely let him (and all of you) know that I’ve been on my “Boot Camp” grind consistently since the end of the July NCAA evaluation period.

#FreshStyleFits: Fall ’16 Style Guide – Boots and Flannels – Oct. 4, 2016

Boots and Flannels season is upon us. I have to agree with my man Logan Pitts (@Logan_Pittsss23) when he says, “it’s what we’ve been waiting for.” The best part about the flannel with boots look is that there are so many variations of this simple and classic style.

By: Jordan Davis @JDavisPSB

When it comes to choosing the right flannel, you’ll definitely want something saucy. That said, watch for material because a thick cut can limit your styling options. Urban Outfitters is my favorite, ranging from $45 to $120 per shirt. That might sound a bit pricey but trust me that’ll be EXACTLY the material I’m describing. Their brand is made to be worn in multiple ways with just the right fabric and length off the rack. Now how you rock it is entirely in your hands. Sometimes I go classic and just leave it unbuttoned with a white tee shirt or vintage tee underneath, or even over a thin hoodie on the days where it’s freezing out. I’ll even tie it around my waist underneath a tee shirt like the picture above.

As for the boots, many people have many different styles and that’s okay. Each style of boot (aside from your country concert boots) goes great with this look. As for me, I love Kenneth Cole mid cut gentlemen boots or Clarks boots for men. Both give me the slim look, matching the theme for the attire, while also giving me an extra inch or two so my girlfriend has someone to look up to when we step out for dinner.

Brandon Clay’s Take:

I see what my man JD is doing with his fashion game this fall / winter. The flannels and boot combo isn’t in my style wheelhouse but he executes the look with the crispness of a boss. I did a little research and the combo gives me a real Nick Young / Jordan Clarkson feel out in Los Angeles. You can’t mention those two without name dropping D’Angelo Russell as well. Any of those guys all pulled the flannel look off at different points over the past year.

#PSBPopCulture: A Night in Buckhead – Sept. 20, 2016

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

Lenox Mall and Phipps Plaza are the center of the Buckhead community. Located about 15 minutes from downtown Atlanta, there is a little something for everyone from the daytime activities to the night life. Part of our team – Jordan Davis, Alli Lhamon – (and affiliate member Anna Grace Smathers) joined me to check it out. We enlisted the help of our PSBPopCulture.com Lead Photographer, Larry Rhinehart and snapped some shots of the area.

Here’s a look at some of the pictures that made it to our respective social media accounts:

#iTunesSounds: “Big Amount” – 2 Chainz feat. Drake – August 11, 2016

By: Jordan Davis @JDavisPSB and Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

It seems every time that 2 Chainz and Drake team up, they deliver a classic track. From “All Me” to “No Lie,” the two stars rarely disappoint. They’ve done it again with “Big Amount” off of the “Daniel Son, Necklace Don” mixtape.

Jordan’s Take: I have to give another assist to my boy Dante Sawyer (@BuzzSawww) for the track. Before I listened to the entire song was the snippet where Drake states, “And I’ve never seen the inside of a Marriott or a Westin!” I immediately downloaded the song and listened to it. Usually Chainz and Drake gravitate toward the club banging type beats but this beat is significantly different. However the track is easily the best on the tape with decent bars from Chainz and Drake providing his usual heat.

Favorite Line:
“I was in Juvy, they gave me community.
I had to pick up some litter.
I want it easy, please do not tease me.
I wore my Yeezy’s to dinner”

Brandon’s Take: Drake and Chainz went in on this one. Drake brought the heat and forced Chainz to up his game in the process. The result was another smash hit.

Favorite Line:
“I got a big amount, I think I’m the biggest out.
You lit and can’t even put it out.”

#iTunesSounds: Four to Know – June 15, 2016

By: Jordan Davis @JDavisPSB and Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

1) “All The Way Up Remix” – Fat Joe and Remy Ma with Jay-Z

Jay-Z came in on what’s been one of the hottest songs in the streets this summer nationwide and gave it additional juice.

“You know you made it when the fact that your marriage made it is worth millions. Lemonade is a popular drink and it still is.” — Jay-Z

BREAKDOWN: Jay touches on the rumors of infidelity helping Beyonce come with huge sales of her album and subsequent tour. The Lemonade line is actually a Gang Starr rap lyric reference from the 90’s.

“I was up top seven winters and six summers. Cuffed. They on me on that bus all the way down now I’m all the way up.” — Remy Ma

BREAKDOWN: Remy has been quite a while locked up in New York but like Gucci Mane, she’s home now.

2) “Money Made Me Do It” – Post Malone feat. 2 Chainz

My boy Post Malone is back with a dope new track! Now, I wouldn’t consider it to be on the same level as his hit single “White Iverson”, but this is definitely something good to follow up with this. Post Malone sticking with his singer type rapping vibe on this track while 2 Chainz actually delivers a couple solid bars. One of my favorite producers FKI also does a great job on the production of this track. Assist to my boy Dante (@BuzzSawww) who reposted it on Soundcloud and I had to grab it. – Jordan Davis

CLAY: I love this one. I’ve been on it since JD tossed me the lob at the rim a couple of weeks back.

“Rest in peace to Bankroll, you in a better place bro.” — Post Malone

BREAKDOWN: Shoutout to up-and-coming rap artist Bankroll Fresh who was killed earlier this year.

“Bandana round my neck, like Bankroll Fresh. Pocket full of street money, count my blessings. One hundred, one thousand, 100 K, one million.” — 2 Chainz

BREAKDOWN: Chainz takes the Bankroll tribute and throws his spin on it. Well played.

3) “New Level” – A$AP Ferg feat. Future

If you’re looking for the perfect song to get that last set out in the weight room, finish that last mile on the treadmill, or a pregame track, look no further. This song immediately gets me hype when the beat drops because of that A$AP Ferg presence and delivery. Not to mention this is right in Future’s lane, who has been making some of the hypest tracks since “March Madness”! Both Future and Ferg do a great job of killing the beat lyrically without trying to do to much.  – Jordan Davis

CLAY: “A$AP, A$AP…that call on the intro is the coldest part of the song to me.”

4) “Major” – DMK

Keep an eye on the Detroit based RnB group. Their first single, “Major,” is a radio-friendly track that I actually caught on Sirius XM in late-May. Check their self titled “DMK” EP.

#FreshStyleFits: Summer ’16 Style Guide by Brandon Clay – May 24, 2016

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

Hats

For the most part, I stick with a combination of New Era fitted / snapback and Jordan Brand hats. I like the flavor that a crisp hat brings to the top of the outfit when it’s done right. From time to time, I’ll still rock a Polo Ralph Lauren baseball cap like Alli Lhamon mentioned that she rocks as well. Suzanne Eubank, one of my fashion go-to’s, says baseball hats should be worn with the bill clean and to the front. I rock with that though I must admit I stray from her theory on occasion.

Jackets

No matter where my travels take me, I’ll still keep a lightweight Lifted Anchors bomber jacket or hoodie with me until the end of June. I put Jordan Davis on them before spring break came and went. Temperatures vary so much when the sun goes down that the extra layer can add to the outfit while still matching the weather.

Shirts

Whether it’s from Lifted Anchors or John Elliott, the extended or asymmetric tee is still the way to go for me. I rocked them tough this winter with a jacket. I have a wide variation of colors and styles in the closet but the Lifted Anchors Penny tee or John Elliott Distressed Classic are great for any occasion. A huge shoutout to my personal stylist, Taylor Johnson, is necessary for the assist on this look. As an aside, being in the gym consistently is a major key to pulling these shirts off the right way.

I like Polo button up shirts when it’s 85 degrees and under especially if there is going to be shade at an outdoor concert. I also keep the Polo v-neck on deck as the weather heats up too.

Situation: @maddie_hetzel03 & @Breanna_Locke's Graduation Party was 🔥

Pants

It all depends on the day and location but Embellish Demin’s are lightweight which works even with the temperature rising. I also keep a crisp pair of Polo shorts on deck. I wear basketball clothes all the time for work so I like to step it up with my style when I get out of the house.

Sneakers

There are so many options out for a sneakerhead like myself. The Retro Jordan Brand Collection is a staple in my closet. I love the OVO X and OVO XII’s especially, got my hands on em early. This year, I’ve added a low top look with the Nike Presto this summer. They are the lightest shoes that I’ve rocked. I’ll always have room in my rotation for the timeless Polo low tops on my feet to complete the cycle.

Status: Got my hands on these early. Slated to drop in stores Summer '16. 👟: #Jordan #OVO12s by Drake | #SoleFlow

Accessories

I like to keep a clean watch on my wrist. The Apple Watch is a must grab and remains my go to through the summer. With all the band options, it’s easy to switch the style up from the gym to the weight room to the beach while keeping the watch in play. Elite Basketball Academy standout, Sydney Parrish agrees with me.
