#PSBAllAccess: Discovery HS – Business Marketing Speech – February 7, 2018

Travis McDaniel invited me out to Discovery HS to speak to the Business Academy students. My message was simple: Find your passion and make it your livelihood. I told them I’m a kid from Gwinnett County Public Schools just like them…if I can make it from here, then they can be better than me.

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCultureBC

THE BREAKDOWN:

We touched on multiple topics ranging from the worldwide success of local artists Migos to how to turn your passion into a nichè business. The students involved were fantastic with plenty of responses and feedback.

#PSBAllAccess: The Work Don’t Lie – Apr. 12, 2017

I told my story of the road back to consistent personal fitness on the site in October of 2016. It’s been seven months since then and I’m feeling even better than I did at that point. One of my PSB teammates, Christian Simmons, has a quote “The Work Don’t Lie.” Truthfully, I feel that now more than ever.

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

The Breakdown:

The biggest adjustment for me since the last time I checked in was adding a consistent 800 calories a day burned strictly by cardio. I measure the work with my Apple Watch and take it off at all times a day unless I’m working out. The focus has been on short sprints between 10 to 50 yards both moving forward and backpedaling. I like to get two separate workouts in a day – one mid afternoon and one at night before I start to wind down.

I’ve also added to my protein, fresh fruit and water intake with two meals a day of either lean chicken or fish with white rice. Special thanks to Flex Fuel Prep for that.

Accountability has long kept me on a path that I felt like veering off of so I gotta thank the following: Dain Pool, Keil Moore, Chris Hansen, JD Davis, Branden Mayweather, Donte Grant, Jermale Wilkerson, Taylor Johnson, Vince Smith and Carl Reed. They’ve kept me on course even when they didn’t know I was thinking about the goals I’ve shared with them.

I’m down from 210 or so at the end of 2015 to hovering around 185-188 pounds daily but more importantly, can see the shape of my body changing seemingly by the day. I’ll check back in more frequently with updates over the summer.

#PSBAllAccess: “Adrian Penland All-Star Game” – Apr. 11, 2017

Through his hard work and dedication to the community, Adrian Penland has established the premier postseason game for seniors in North Georgia. I was honored to serve as a judge for this year’s Slam Dunk Contest.

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

The Breakdown:

I’ve known Adrian since we played against each other in high school. He was a star at West Hall High, went on to play at Lander University and went overseas to play professionally after that. Since then, AP has taken that experience and brought it back to the streets with a series of youth camps, tournaments and his All-Star Game. Former Atlanta Falcons, Jerious Norwood and Todd Weiner, as well as Alabama forward Daniel Giddens joined me as judges. I definitely wanted to bring my fashion A Game out of respect for what AP is in the process of building.

SIDENOTE: Congrats to #SMPMember, Taylor Anne Kelley, on winning the 3-point contest. Multiple event attendee, Hanna Grogan, won the game’s MVP as well.

HUGE shoutout goes to both Larry Rhinehart and Jordan Davis for the crisp pictures and quick turnaround time.

#PSBAllAccess: “Elite Basketball Academy Camp Director” – Mar. 10, 2017

When I started Peach State Basketball, I remembering telling my dad that I never saw the camp directors who ran the ones I grew up attending except for the first hour and last hour of camp. They definitely weren’t coaching my team at camp.

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

I made myself a promise to grow the game by making sure all of our campers leave feeling like they learned something from me personally. Hopefully, when they stop playing that hands on influence will help them want to give back to the same game that has raised me.

Working with up-and-coming prospects like Isaiah Reed of Fla., make me remember my days at camp and how much I took away from each experience. It’s a privilege to be in this position not a right. I take that very seriously and am grateful to be able to work with the next generation. My biggest goal is to give them a person in their life who they can look up to. Hopefully, they see how hard I work and realize they can be even more productive as an adult than I ever will be.

Hopefully, our crew is just getting started and my actions will continue to lead us all the way down the pathway to success.

I never got on a scale when I made the commitment to start working out daily in the spring of 2014. The number didn’t matter to me. What did matter is that I felt sluggish most days, didn’t like the way I looked and my doctor told me I needed to reduce my daily sugar intake. Between candy and soda, I was taking in 600-800 calories a day in sugar alone. So I took action: slowly changed my diet, made working out a priority not something I did if I had time left in the day.

As 2016 winds down, I know since I’ve started working out consistently I’ve dropped multiple pant sizes, am two shirt sizes down from where I started. I don’t have an end goal mainly because I feel like I’m always evolving. I will say that if I of all people can cut back on sugar, soda and even fast food that I’m confident anyone on my TL can too. My friend and co-worker Jarrett Christian says, “Take It Personal.” That’s exactly what I plan to keep doing.

In this episode, I had the chance to attend North Gwinnett’s basketball alumni day. I spent thousands of hours in this gym during my teenage years learning how to overcome adversity, take in constructive criticism and become a true competitor in every aspect of my life. Getting back amongst my former teammates and coaches gave me a chance to reflect on how my days at North helped me arrive where I am today.
