#EntertainmentPSB: “The Bachelor” – No. 17 to No. 24 – January 5, 2016

Taylor Johnson will bring us weekly updates from the hit TV series “The Bachelor.” She’ll breakdown fashion from the show and rank the remaining contestants on a weekly.

By: @KTaylorPSB

Ben Higgins, the 26-year-old star of the season, was quite the gentleman Monday night for his premier as the new bachelor for ABC. He greeted 28 women to the bachelor mansion, but I think there were a few women he wished he denied at the front door. This season is not short of any of the usual crazy personalities that “The Bachelor” producers never fail to entertain us with.

Here is a ranking of No. 17 to No. 24 remaining ladies from my favorite to least favorite:

17) Rachel, 23: Shout out to Rachel for being unemployed but still riding up on a hover board for her introduction. Unfortunately for Rachel, she didn’t receive much TV time so all we know about her is that she is unemployed.

18) Maegan, 30: Maegan was so proud of herself for upstaging the twins by bringing a pony to the mansion. That said, her dress choice did not upstage anyone.

19) Izzy, 24: Izzy thought it was a great idea to wear a onesie for her first impression with Ben. Nothing says you are taking this seriously like an adult onesie.

20) Jackie, 23: Jackie introduced herself to Ben with a save the date for her and Ben’s wedding, wedding hashtag and all. Fortunately for her Lauren R. upped the crazy by admitting she stalked Ben on social media for months, saving Jackie from elimination for one week.

21) Shushanna, 27: I don’t have much to say about Shushanna because unfortunately I do not speak Russian.

22) Leah, 25: If my mom watched me make an entrance to the show like Leah did, I think she would disown me. Bending over to snap a football in an evening dress is never a good look.

23) Mandi, 28: Another Bachelor type cast, Mandi is without a doubt the crazy chick of the season. She is apparently a dentist, but I am just curious of the number of people that actually let her touch their mouths with sharp tools.

24) Lace, 25: Lace had one too many glasses of wine, but it made for great TV. I kind of liked her at the beginning with her gorgeous dress, sarcastic comments, and facial expressions. However, by the end of the night she was full blown even confronting Ben about not giving her eye contact during the rose ceremony… after she already received a rose. I’m thinking Ben regret that decision, but thanks for another week of Lace sarcastic comments, Ben!

Unfortunately, Lauren R., the self-proclaimed stalker was eliminated on the first night. Maybe revealing that you stalk someone’s social media is more second date material. Laura, aka “red velvet” joined her on their limo ride to the airport. Laura’s excuse, “he’s just not into gingers,” or maybe he’s just not into women who refer to themselves as “red velvet.” Breanne cried her way out of the mansion after the rose ceremony, mainly because I think there was too much gluten in the house for her to handle. Lastly, Jessica also exited the mansion. She seemed sweet and genuine, which probably means she just wasn’t wild enough to keep the show entertaining.

#EntertainmentPSB: Serial Podcast – December 18, 2015

By: Jonathan Hemingway @JLHemingwayPSB

One of the things I enjoy while driving, other than listening to music, is listening to podcasts. I find them as a superior alternative to listening to the radio. Here are a few of the reasons why:

• You can chose from a wide variety of topics as opposed to being limited to what is on the radio at the moment.

• You can pause and start the podcast at any moment. Or you can even go back and listen to the episode again at any time.

• The production quality of these podcasts is usually A-1. The content is well thought out and worthwhile.

The Serial podcast is a must-follow in my opinion. This podcast broke an iTunes record with 5 million downloads and streams last year. It became the fastest podcast to ever reach that milestone.

Last year, I listened to all 12 episodes of Season 1, which a real-life murder history that was told by This American Life and Sarah Koenig. The story centers on a murder of a teenage girl, Hae Min Lee, in 1999. Her boyfriend, Adnan Syed, was arrested and convicted of the crime a few years later. Koenig, the investigative reporter for the Serial podcast, conducted interviews and retold the story of Lee and Syed through the twelve episodes. It is a compelling story. Koenig found that many of the facts that she dug up, neither the jury nor the public ever got to hear at the time of the case.

Season 2, episode 1 of Serial was released last Thursday. The story that Koenig and her crew choose to tackle is quite different than that of a teenage murder mystery. Bowe Bergdahl was a soldier in Afghanistan who disappeared from his post in 2009. In 2014, he was returned by the Taliban back the United States. However, Bergdahl is now being charged with crimes that could land him in prison for life. He has not done any interviews with the press until now. The Serial podcast tells his story and will release a new episode on every Thursday.

You can download all of these podcasts on your iPhone in the podcast center or listen directly on the Serial website.

ATLANTA, Ga. – After leaving the Atlanta Hawks game on Monday night, the PSBPopCulture.com Team made the short walk down the street to SkyView Atlanta. It’s a cool option for a small group or a couple setting to take in the city from a ferris wheel. #EntertainmentPSB: “Fixer Upper” – Season Premier – December 1, 2015

As a homeowner, I find myself paying more attention to channels like HGTV than I ever did growing up in my parents home. My love for the series “Fixer Upper” is a result of having gone through the home buying (and renovating) process. I was introduced to the series by my Operations intern, Taylor Johnson, and have really enjoyed the first two seasons.

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture

As the show gears up for its’ third season on HGTV, Chip and Joanna Gaines are back at it. The married couple displays a unique way to blend their careers of renovating homes for clients throughout central Texas while raising a family based in the town of Waco, Texas. The couple is in the process of making themselves the most popular item to come from the town since Baylor University quarterback Robert Griffin III won the Heisman Trophy in 2012. Before the show aired in 2013, the Gaineses had already renovated more than 100 homes building their Magnolia Homes business in the process.

In the third season, the two will tackle their toughest project to date as they build what is slated to be called “Magnolia Market.” It is scheduled to be completed sometime in July. In addition to silos and a warehouse that will contain the Magnolia Homes offices, part of the plan calls for a retail marketplace and an area for approximately 15 to 20 mobile food vendors and trucks. The WacoTrib reported that the city of Waco has contributed with a reported 208,376 in tax incentives to assist in the project. Even my dad, John Clay, is a big fan of the show and mentioned his excitement about the series premier over Thanksgiving Dinner last week.

Make sure to turn in to HGTV at 9 pm EST / 8 pm CST.

#EntertainmentPSB: The Future of Atlanta Music – November 23, 2015

By: Brandon Clay @PSBPopCulture and By: Jordan Davis @JDavisPSB

Atlanta is a city well known recently for pushing the pace forward in entertainment, fashion and music alike. With everyone trying to get into fashion, art, and music the level of competition throughout is at what some would say is an all time high.

In addition to industry success: followers, likes and retweets are coveted by even the most established in the fields above. Two Atlanta-based producers share more than early age success and a household, they share a direct family bond. Brothers (@DamiThaPrince) & (@SoundByAde) continue to show they belong in the conversation of who has next from the city that forever changed the hip-hop landscape with OutKast emergence in the late-90’s.

In just four years, they’ve gone from producing beats in their family’s living room in the hopes for the glory to working with some of the hottest young artists in lavish studios reserved for the industry leaders. To date, the brothers have worked with emerging artists such as Bryson Tiller, BJ The Chicago Kid and Montana of 300.

At the ripe old ages of 19 and 20, Dami and Ade are creating their own fast lane in a city where the H-O-V Lane is always the move. Based on their current path, they are well on their way to be two of the hottest producers out of Atlanta for years to come. With a production team that resembles 808 Mafia, they plan on becoming the go to name for artists looking for the next Billboard chart topper.

We sat down with Ade & Dami to see what motivates them through the long nights in the studio, how they manage college while chopping up the music their friends will soon party to and where they are headed from here.

Question: Who do you look up to for music inspiration?

Dami: Honestly, my brother. It’s a musical competition in their house.

Ade: I look up to Kanye West as a musical inspiration. I like his “My Twisted Dark Fantasy” CD the most.

Question: Who would you love to work with?

Dami: PartyNextDoor. He’s just dope right now.

Ade: Pusha T. His style is inline with the music that I’m making.

Question: What was your favorite song of the year?

Dami: “Just Another Interlude” by Bryson Tiller

Ade: “Momma” by Kendrick Lamar off of “To Pimp A Butterfly”

Question: Take on Drake and Meek Mill situation?

Dami: People just love Drake. It’s honestly real hard to get at Drake because of the position that he’s in.

Ade: Everyone’s just riding Drake. Meek is a still a good artist. The people are gonna be back on the Meek bandwagon when Dreamchasers 4 drops.

Jordan: There should have just been Meek on the track, no other voices / no features. Classic battle rap: one on one.

Brandon: Meek tried to do too much. Should have spit quick facts, touched on Drake’s relationship with Serena all over three beats – that throwback Funkmaster Flex style. Rewind the dope lines three or four times in a row.

Question: Name an artist on the come up?

Dami: I vibe with Pouya. He’s an artist from Florida who definitely got bars.

Ade: I’m rockin’ with Travi$ Scott right now. You can see the Kanye influence.

#EntertainmentPSB: Call of Duty “Black Ops 3” – November 16, 2015

By: Jordan Davis @JDavisPSB

In college, the biggest thing that helps me get through the long and stressful semester is my (limited) free time. For some, it’s being on a sports team, but for me and my crew it’s a combination of working out and video games. My editor, Brandon Clay, thinks he’s stronger than me but I got him beat while still making time to play video games. Other than FIFA, NBA 2K, and Madden, one of our favorite video game franchises is the Call Of Duty series.

Last year, Call of Duty released “Advanced Warfare” but that one didn’t catch on with our crew. The extent of how futuristic the game was made it feel more like a Halo or Gears of War. Fast forward a year to the latest Call of Duty release of “Black Ops 3” was announced we knew what was going to be occupying our late nights. As expected, the graphics are superb and the realism of the gameplay can draw even non gamers to the screen. The moment you turn the game on the introduction page reads, “Forget a sick day, you’ll need a sick week.”

We are either all crammed into one apartment playing or playing together online. After we finish working out around 9:00 pm, my online group – Brett Byerly, Dante Sawyer and CJ James – will stay up until as late as 4:00 am (weekends only of course) glued to our flat screen. Without a doubt, Black Ops 3 is a game that I would recommend for any age and any game experience level.

#EntertainmentPSB: “Up Close & Personal with Daron Jones” – November 4, 2015

We were in attendance for the “Up Close & Personal with Daron Jones” show last night at the A-Loft. The show was in conjunction with the release of his “The Unofficial Diary of Daron Jones” mixtape just over two weeks ago. With over 500 people in attendance including A-List celebrity Ludacris, the lounge was packed with fans and guests of the hotel drawn to the sounds of the performance flowing into the lobby.

By: Brandon Clay @bballplusmusic

His pre-show demeanor in the back before going on set was very much that of an artist embarking on a fresh start to his veteran career. Jones opened with the classic track “Crazy Over You” and rolled from there with some material from his days as a member of the RnB group 112.

With his eyes covered by designer shades, Jones did a quick cover of the Drake hit “Hotline Bling” getting full crowd participation on that one as well. He moved into his cover of Donny Hathaway’s “A Song For You” off of the mixtape then weaved into “Superstar” by the late Luther Vandross.

The Sports Utility Vehicle captured the performance in its’ entirety.

You can watch the show here:

#EntertainmentPSB: Beats Studio Wireless – November 2, 2015

Since 2008, Beats headphones have become the signature brand for a majority of music consumers worldwide. The company has had so much success that per Wikipedia, on August 1, 2014, Apple Inc. acquired Beats for US $3 billion in a cash and stock deal, the largest acquisition in Apple’s history.

By: Brandon Clay @bballplusmusic

The headphones range in price from around $179 to upwards of $400. The Studio Wireless are my favorite release to date. In talking with my friend and NBA Fantasy League counterpart, Joel Hemingway, he raised the question “are they worth it?”

My response is yes. Here are my thoughts on why:

They use Bluetooth technology to eliminate the need for wires connecting a music player to the headphones. The Studio Wireless also charge with a USB cord as opposed to needing batteries. Both are major positives in my book from a functionality standpoint. Toss in the various color ways and endorsers of the product itself and the Beats line is my go-to right now.

SIDENOTE: I remember my man Sean Darks walking around the gym with his pair on years ago while watching his daughter Taylor play. After that, I had to go scoop a pair myself.

Another member of the NBA Fantasy League crew, Dain Pool, asked me yesterday if there was another brand that I thought was worth a look. I told him for the time being Beats has control of the market in my eyes. I missed out on the “Straight Outta Compton” Limited Edition headphones and now have that on my Christmas Wish List.

#EntertainmentPSB: “The Walking Dead” – Glenn Dies – October 28, 2015

I became a fan of “The Walking Dead” about a year ago. It is an AMC original program and is currently the most popular series on television. My family convinced me to watch a few episodes and after that I was hooked. I went on a personal watching marathon though all the seasons to catch-up before this season’s finale.

By: Jonathan Hemingway @JLHemingwayPSB

Last week’s episode had fans buzzing as it appeared that Glenn (Steven Yeun) dies after being trapped by walkers. The once coward, turned mentally unstable Nicholas (Michael Traynor) chose to kill himself while standing upon a garbage dumpster. Just before he pulls the trigger he says ‘Thank You’ to Glenn, which appears to be an odd thing to say. The limp Nicholas falls onto Glenn and they both tumble into the crowd of zombies where the camera shows Glenn’s face and bloody intestines being strewn everywhere.

We all went into the commercial break believing that we had just seen one of our program’s heroes killed. An impossible, even maddening turn of events when you consider all of the jams that Glenn had helped the group get out of in past episodes. This could not be!!!

Our first clue that Glenn may NOT be dead is when “The Talking Dead” (the talk show that runs immediately following) does not put Glenn in the “In Memoriam.” This segment always gives one last tribute to those who died in the past episode. The producers of the show danced around the issue by saying that they will show Glenn in a ‘flashback’ scene in a future episode and after that they will put him rest.

That had everyone rushing to their DVR’s to look at the scene one last time to see if there were any clues that we could cling to hope that Glenn is in fact still alive. When looking at the tape, it seems plausible that Nicholas landed on Glenn and that the walkers were eating the guts of Nicholas and not Glenn.

The Walking Dead fans are anxiously awaiting the next episode this Sunday to see if our Glenn will be there.
Add your comments below. We would like to hear from you. Is Glenn still alive?

#EntertainmentPSB: EROVER Hoverboard – October 24, 2015

The Hoverboard craze has swept the country with entertainment artists like Wiz Khalifa riding them through LAX Airport while college students nationwide are riding them on campus. I received a cool SnapChat from a college assistant this week with their players riding through the offices.

To date, there are limited supplies on store shelves so the first question becomes where do you get one? I went through Amazon.com struggling with one company while finding success with another. Sanatop was the second company I used. They delivered on time and with no damage to the product. I’ve had mine about a month and love spending time on the board.

Secondly, the boards are running between $269 and $450 depending on the retailer. I would be diligent in reading reviews like this before buying one. That said, WalMart is supposed to be stocking them soon on their online site in time for the holidays. That would be an ideal route to go for both guaranteed assistance and quality delivery times.

I rode mine into #EBATop40 Workout as we closed out the event series for the 2015 calendar year:
